Butterfly Meadows Energy will pay in excess of $20M in property tax revenue to Van Wert County over its lifetime. These dollars could be used for county improvements such as local citizen tax relief, expansion of fire and rescue equipment, investment in area schools and other community services–all while providing clean, locally sourced solar energy to Northwest Ohio.

Long-Term Economic Lift

Butterfly Meadows Energy will generate power for up to 35-45 years, providing long-term benefits for the surrounding region.
  • Annual Tax payments to Van Wert county for the lifetime of the project.
    • Increase in real property tax revenue due to higher assessed land value.
    • Increased business personal property tax revenue assessed on the equipment.
  • No county infrastructure or public services required for solar development.
  • Before construction, we are committed to hiring locally, when possible, and ensuring area businesses have the opportunity to bid on subcontracts.
  • During construction, hundreds of workers will be onsite boosting area businesses and service providers.
  • At the end of the project’s useful life, the land can be returned to agricultural use, helping mitigate permanent conversion of cropland into other uses.

Environmental Impact

  • Butterfly Meadows Energy has undergone extensive environmental review and site planning to identify and avoid sensitive resources while minimizing impacts to the surrounding landscape and community.
  • Use of the land is long-term but temporary, allowing the property to be returned to agricultural production or other uses at the end of the project’s operational life.
  • Best management practices for stormwater control and erosion prevention will be incorporated throughout construction and operations.
  • The project has been designed to minimize impacts to wetlands, streams and other environmentally sensitive areas within the project boundary.
  • Vegetative screening and setbacks will help reduce visual impacts while supporting pollinator habitat and biodiversity.
  • Annually, Butterfly Meadows Energy will generate enough electricity to power approximately 67,000 homes while offsetting hundreds of thousands of metric tons of carbon emissions. *
