At Urban Grid, we try to let our actions represent our ideas. We recycle at every job site. This extends beyond daily recycling, to also include the recycling of jobsite materials. For example, we work in conjunction with Habitat for Humanity to arrange a pick up for any functioning hot water heaters when we do solar thermal replacements. By doing so, we forgo the cost of disposal, alleviate the waste in landfills, and provide the client with an additional tax deduction. As our fleet ages, we are replacing all our vehicles with biodiesel operated engines. Overall, if there’s an area of our construction practices that we can make greener, we will.
Urban Grid is a renewable energy company that hopes to make solar energy and electric vehicle (EV) charging stations a standard part of commercial & residential construction. Currently, we have offices in Richmond, VA and Annapolis, MD. We do solar thermal, photovoltaic, and EV charging station installations in Virginia, Maryland, and the Washington DC area. Although we work with Architects and Engineers to encourage the incorporation of renewables on new construction projects, retrofits to existing buildings are a primary part of our business. In addition to the commercial & residential sectors, we are an approved government contractor. Our services range from small residential solar installs, academic facilities, and restaurants to large companies that require significant amounts of electric as an integral part of operations. Urban Grid offers free site assessments and designs each renewable installation to fit the current and future energy needs of the client. Urban Grid's photovoltaic systems are covered under warranty for 25 years and a 3 year annual service agreement is standard with every installation. Along with that, our EV ChargePoint Systems also come with an extended warranty to ensure maximum usage. Installation safety is taken very seriously at Urban Grid. Founder, Blue Crump, is an OSHA approved Instructor trained to teach 10- hour & 30- hour construction safety courses. All Urban Grid employees have completed 10- hour OSHA Construction Safety Certification. In addition, we have weekly safety meetings to discuss keeping our sites safer.
At Urban Grid, we think renewable energy and green ideas in construction are important to share with everyone. With that in mind, we’ve partnered with Richmond’s organic grocer, Ellwood Thompson as well as Whole Foods in Short Pump to develop classes on Green Building. They are offered free of charge each month. In Ellwood’s Community Classroom and the Whole Foods Dining Area. We cover topics such as: Green Insulation & Weatherizing, Flooring & Carpet, Solar Energy, EV Charging Stations, Green Kitchens, and much more to come throughout the year.
