JOB TITLE: Senior Design Engineer
JOB LOCATION: Richmond, VA or Stevensville, MD

A Senior Design Engineer is sought to help us progress our 2.5GW solar portfolio through to NTP, requiring the following knowledge and experience;

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • PV System Design; an expert using Helioscope, CAD and PVsyst in order to produce PV layouts, PVsysts, 8760s and all data required for permitting and interconnection processes
  • Optimization; an intimate familiarity and understanding of all system variables, equipment metrics, and their interaction in order to optimize output, also taking in to account TOD value
  • LCOE Consideration; ideally some additional experience including the equipment pricing function in order to maximize the LCOE

You will join a growing engineering team and coordinate with internal PMs and interconnection team, as well as external consultants, utilities and EPCs.

JOB TITLE: Utility Solar Site Acquisition Analyst

JOB LOCATION: Stevensville, MD

The primary responsibility of this position will be to identify potential sites for utility-scale solar. Secondary responsibilities will include market research, support for existing project management and ongoing project development.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Analyze property data and GIS maps in markets to identify potential solar project sites
  • Monitor and analyze Interconnection queues
  • Perform project feasibility analysis
  • Coordinate and facilitate initial landowner contact for potential solar project sites
  • Use all relevant information to research and understand local communities where the company has a business interest
  • Assist with project development related research, including state and local permitting and regulatory processes
  • Establish, maintain and update project specific files, databases, records and other documents
  • Complete other responsibilities as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor ‘s Degree in Geography, Environmental Science, Engineering or similar or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Position requires excellent organization skills, attention to detail and problem solving
  • Extensive experience with computer applications specifically GIS, Word, PowerPoint, Adobe Professional and Excel
  • 1+ years of related experience in land use, real estate or environmental industries is preferable but not required
  • Must possess excellent and professional written and verbal communication skills
  • Highly motivated, energetic and willing to learn new tasks quickly

JOB TITLE: Solar Project Development Manager

JOB LOCATION: Stevensville, MD

PRIMARY ROLE: The primary responsibility of this position will be to coordinate and manage the pre-construction development of utility scale solar projects, including management and coordination of all project due diligence, permitting, studies, interconnection and engineering activities, as well as managing all key project relationships from landowners, legals, consultants, suppliers and internal teams through to utilities, governmental and regulatory bodies. This position is key to Urban Grid’s goals for continued success in developing the highest quality solar generation assets.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintain clear and concise communication with and reporting to Urban Grid’s management team on all development activities, risks and constraints throughout the pre-construction development phase
  • Provide effective, forward-looking, hands-on project management skills within the organization as it relates to solar project development
  • Manage multiple projects in parallel at the same time
  • Coordinate with in-house and 3rd party Interconnection, Electrical and Design engineers to ensure the most efficient, optimized and compliant design is maintained throughout both the interconnection application and permitting procedures
  • Manage, with in-house experts and 3rd party consultants, all studies required in order to reach a ready-to-build status such as title, ROWs, ALTA, topography, wetlands, hydrology, geotechnical, environmental, species, forestry, flood etc.
  • Manage all permit applications and all relevant studies and procedures required to successfully achieve all permits necessary to bring the project to a ready to build status
  • Interface with senior management on matters relating to development engineering progress, risks, quality, scope and schedule

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A minimum of 2 years directly relevant experience in utility-scale solar project development management
  • Excellent verbal, written, technical, legal and presentation skills
  • Excellent listener and skilled at negotiation
  • Excellent organization skills, attention to detail and problem solving

JOB TITLE: Senior Transmission Planning Engineer

JOB LOCATION: Glen Allen, VA

JOB SUMMARY:

Urban Grid is looking for an experienced transmission planning engineer to contribute to the company’s expanding solar project portfolio as the subject matter expert on planning studies and power flow analysis. The successful candidate will be responsible for assisting in the development of new interconnection applications, completing targeted analysis of interconnection study reports, validating generator interconnection power flow studies, and working with the interconnection team to develop market-level interconnection strategies. The candidate should have previous experience working in a transmission planning role with a focus in the PJM or MISO markets.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Complete internal feasibility analysis of potential project sites using available transmission data and provide guidance to interconnection team
  • Develop power flow base cases, as necessary, to identify project constraints
  • Develop generator dynamic models and short circuit models for interconnection applications
  • Analyze generator interconnection study reports, validate findings with targeted power flow analysis, and summarize findings to interconnection team
  • Lead the development of regional interconnection strategies in concert with the interconnection team
  • Represent Urban Grid in RTO/ISO stakeholder committees and processes

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (B.S.E.E), Master’s Degree preferred
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills are required. The candidate must possess the ability to translate complex engineering analysis into executive summaries
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in the electric utility industry
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in a transmission planning role in a utility/RTO
  • Proficient in running power flow studies in PSSE or PowerWorld
  • Familiarity with Short Circuit Modeling in ASPEN Oneliner or CAPE strongly preferred
  • Familiarity with the FERC OATT and regional interconnection processes is preferred
  • Understanding of power market pricing and dynamics is preferred
  • Planning experience with inverter-based generators is preferred

JOB TITLE: Interconnection Engineer

JOB LOCATION: Glen Allen, VA

JOB SUMMARY:

Urban Grid is looking for an experienced interconnection engineer to contribute to the company’s expanding utility scale solar project portfolio. The successful candidate will be responsible for assisting in the development of new interconnection applications, guiding existing queued projects successfully through the interconnection process, and serving as the interconnection subject matter expert on assigned projects. Preferred candidates will have experience working with the PJM or MISO interconnection processes.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead the development of interconnection applications for assigned market or region including preparing and reviewing application documentation, creating one-line diagrams and identifying project constraints
  • Manage the interconnection study process for all assigned projects ensuring applications and agreements are submitted without error
  • Develop interconnection strategy for assigned projects and ensure projects are aligned with company goals
  • Analyze interconnection study reports and summarize findings and next steps with management
  • Lead site visits with the project management team to identify project risks

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (B.S.E.E)
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills are required. The candidate must possess the ability to translate complex engineering analysis into executive summaries
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in the electric utility industry, preferably with an electric utility company
  • Candidate must be able to visually recognize transmission, distribution, and substation equipment in the field
  • Candidate must be capable of reading and preparing preliminary substation one-line diagrams
  • Candidate must be familiar with the basics of substation and system protection design
  • Familiarity with the FERC OATT and regional interconnection processes is preferred
